Domain name is the most important thing while going in the digital world. It is the first step to go in the digital world. This is the initial process to establish a website. Domain name registration is a necessary, easy, and strategically important first step in establishing an online presence, whether for business or otherwise.
A well-chosen domain name registration can set you up for success with your new site in so many ways, the most prominent of these being increased search engine traffic. A good domain name registration, particularly for an online business, is easily done, but at the same time requires choices that will impact your site’s effectiveness. So here, in no particular order, are some things to bear in mind when doing a domain name registration.
The extension – Will it be a .com, .net, .org, .info etc. Any of these will get spidered and indexed by the search engines, but if you can get a .com for your chosen name you’d be better off, as this extension is more common and carries an air of legitimacy with it. Try not to have you domain name registration with your web host. Your domain name registration, purchased from a reputable company should run you somewhere between $1-10, depending on the extension and the amount of time you sign up for.
Probably the most important aspect of your domain name registration is the choice of keywords to use in your domain name. Try to use the main keyword or phrase you’d like to optimize the whole site for, and see if you can craft a domain name around it. The search engines seem to favor keyword-rich domain names. Keep it short if possible.
A shorter name is easier to remember than a long one. Don’t use your company name unless it has your keywords in it. There’s no point in ranking high for your name if no one is looking for it yet. Try to keep your domain name registration topically relevant. As search engines get smarter and smarter, sites that display total relevance will rank higher than catch all sites.
Lastly, be sure to avoid other companies’ trademarks and copyrights in your domain name. For example, let’s say you’re an affiliate of The Sharper Image. To sum up, your domain name registration is easy to do, but important to do well. It can make the difference in whether you get found or not.

How To Pick Your Domain Name

Get Your Own Domain Name to Redirect to a Long URL
One thing most network marketing (MLM) and affiliate programs have in common is a long URL for the individual member websites. It’s a good idea to get a domain name and redirect it to your affiliate link. Pick something fairly short and easy to remember.
Getting your own domain name is almost a “must-have” sort of thing, but the good news is that this business expense is usually less than $10 per year at places like GoDaddy.
For example, say you’re in the “Big Whoopee Doo For You” program and your username is MoneyMaker. So, the link to your individual site might be www.bigwhoopeedooforyou.dat/moneymaker/.
Yes folks, that is a bit silly, but I tried to use an example that had little chance of being the name of an actual program. Plus, you probably know that dat is not a real domain extension.
Even if your long URL is easy to remember it’s still better to have a short one so people can easily type it in by hand.
A shorter URL looks better in Google AdWords and in ezine advertising, as well as in text links from a website or blog.
To pick a domain name you can use your real name. You can also try to think of two or three words that describe something about your biz opp to use for a domain name.
After you have a few ideas you need to check to see if any of them are available. There is an availability checker at GoDaddy. It tells you if a certain domain name is already taken. Perhaps the dot-com version is already taken, but the dot-net version is up for grabs.
It’is usually best to use dot-com or dot-net, since they are the common extensions that people are most familiar with.
Here are a few ideas for a good URL for the example above where the member’s username is MoneyMaker:
It all depends on what’s available.
Ask yourself if the domain name you are considering might give a different perception that what you intend. For example, if you saw the URL www.bestmanadvice.dat, you might wonder if it’s for a site that claims to have:
- the best advice FOR a man
- the best advice ABOUT a man
- advice for the ‘best man’ (bridegroom’s attendant at a wedding)
Same URL, but there are at least three different perceptions that people might get from it.
For certain sites, dashes help to clarify what the URL links to. For example, a blog where retired people and senior citizens can share information and exchange ideas with each other might have the URL of www.seniorsexchange.dat.
Someone seeing that URL and not knowing what it’s all about might wonder if it’s for some sort of ‘seniors exchange’ or information for a ‘senior sex change.’ That’s two completely different perceptions for that set of letters. So, in this example, it would be good to put a dash in between the words, such as www.seniors-exchange.dat.
Also, you might want to put in a dash just to separate words and help them stand out.
That’s exactly what I did with the URL I use for my favorite home biz. I also picked words that expressed how I felt about the company and our team.
So, I feel that www.Top-MLM-Team.com is a perfect way to describe one of the best biz opps of all time. No, that’s not hype – with the fair and generous pay plan, great company management, and an effective team – it really is one of the best ever!
If you join our team at www.Top-MLM-Team.com, what kind of a domain name will you pick for your home biz?
